[Tutorial] 4City

Hello,

Some years ago, I have written an article about the 4City mod which originally invented from a japanese penmodding contest within the year 2018.

18 grams

21 centimeters (can be longer)

5 years later, I decided to make a new version of this mod which gather more common parts and an easier way to be made. However, this new version is still technically hard to make.

5 years later, 4City remains one of my best inventions both in term aesthetically and technically speaking.

Before starting writting the tutorial, I should tell you that it requires a lot of pens but I think they are pretty common. There are a lot of adjustments to do so you might fail the first time. But no worries, I often fail this mod too. When I say “fail”, it essentially means I have to redo the same step a lot of times for the perfect adjustment. Don’t give up ! I believe in You.

A video tutorial will be released in the near future too for a better help.

Pens stuff :

  • 2 thick Supertip bodies ;
  • 1 Bic round stic body
  • 2 Signo broad tips and caps ;
  • 2 CT/KT small and big caps. I advise you not to use the version of Eno of the big cap since it is very slightly tinier than the original one, the mod is going to be a bit harder to make if you use it. But still faisible though ;
  • 2 Airfit rings. Mine are from Penwish and are slightly thicker than the original one. Still works anyway. Depending of yours (original, Penwish one, Eno One…), the adjustment to the grip will be different and there is a possibility that you won’t use the same part of the grip as the tutorial ;
  • 4 Dr.Grip metal rings. Mine are from ENO and original. Works well for both ;
  • 2 Zebra Tect metal rings. Mine are original ;
  • 2 G3 grips : 4 pieces of 2 rings. Better if it is not stretched out or you will struggle a lot while making the mod ;
  • 2 Playcolor2 backplugs
  • some Anyball rings
  • 3 Zebra tect silicon rings

Tutorial :

The length of the Supertip is 6.9cm to the back.
Add a 2cm long of the bic body into the cut part of the ST.
Hollow the small cap of the CT/KT.

Put the small cap upside down above the signo tip and the bic. How to be sure that you pushed the bic further enough ? The top of the signo have to be at the limit of the cap.

Prepare a 3,4×2.4cm insert (or a better size you think you need to hide the small CT cap). Use clear tape (with the insert under it) in order to seal the small CT cap to the ST body with the signo tip inside. The clear tape can be between the “o” and the “l”. It is going to be hiden from the big part of the big CT cap anyway.

Note : don’t use too much tape or you will struggle to fit the Broad cap. I advise you to use strong clear tape.

Cut an half of Anyball ring and shorten it a bitas shown :

Put this piece into the small ct cap in order to prevent the signo tip to moving :

Cut the big cap of your CT (exactly from the same way as for the Vore-Tex KT) and file down the inside (with a circular file) so it can fit on the ST body (previous step). This is a complicated step. You have to try by yourself and see how much you have to file down the cap. Use gardening glove for a better grip to slide the CT cap on the ST body. Good luck !

Note : I advise you to slide the cap from the ST body and not from the insert (in order to prevent the insert from wrinkling and the cap from stucking)

Add the Tect oring.

Cut your signo cap as shown. Keep the smooth part at the left. Length of the cap : 3.1cm.
Advice : Do a pre-cut with a pipe cutter and finish with a blade.

Cut the front of the playcolor2 baclplug 2 times : remove the tiny tip and cut just after the ring.

The part is 1.5cm long.

Difficult step : add the drgrip and tect metal rings as shown. File down one of the drgrip metal ring (the one at the left on the picture below) in order to remove the tiny bump. If you don’t file down this part, you will undoubtedly fail the adjustment later. This is a very important step, don’t skip it !

This is what looks like the structure when disassembled.
The adjustments are complicated too. Good luck again !

Add the unstretched G3 grip above both DRgrip metal rings as shown.

Above the G3 grip, add 1.5 ring of Anyball. Depending of your Zebra metal rings, the part used of the Anyball grip varies. Check by yourself.

Cut a piece of the insert of the size of the Airfit ring.

Notes :
– If you have cut the Broad cap with pipe cutter, the plastic from the cut part should be tucked inwards. It may cause trouble when you will push the cap above the inserted part. I advise you to remove very delicately the tucked plastic with a blade.
– Add a bit of saliva/water on the G3 grip of the left (the one inside the Broad cap) in order to ease the adjustment. Otherwise, the grip is going to be twisted once pushed inside the cap. If you struggle a lot, the drgrip metal ring is not filed down enough.

Once the adjustment is done, this is how the cap looks like :

If you succeeded to make your mod until this step, congratz ! I can’t wait to see yours !

As as regular Menowa’s mod, attach the ST bodies with 4cm of a bic body + a Zebra tect oring.

Again, congratulations if you made this mod as shown. 😁✌️

About spinning, it looks like a regular Menowa*’s mod with a bit less dense feeling. It is very easy to use.

As said, I will add a video tutorial. If you be usefull for the adjustments 😎 thanks for reading !
